I want to get into DnD but it seems really complicated so I don't know where to start
Isn't there a ton of books on it though? Like each campaign has a bunch?I used to play DnD.
If you want to start the easiest way is to find a group and someone who is willing to teach new players. Does your city has a local game store? or a facebook group where tabletop enthusiast congregate? most of time if they are interested they will say that they are looking for players, just specify that you are new and you would like to learn. I think reddit soy also has subforums where people look for games.
If you want to get an idea of how the game works beforehand you should download the player manual at least, which covers the basics and teaches you how to build a character.
DnD has 3 basic books, which are The Player's book (the one you want to read if you are a player), Dungeon Master's book (the one for the person who directs the game) and Monster's Handbook (it details the monsters you might encounter in the game).Isn't there a ton of books on it though? Ohhhhhhh maybe that's what I was confused aboutDnD has 3 basic books, which are The Player's book (the one you want to read if you are a player), Dungeon Master's book (the one for the person who directs the game) and Monster's Handbook (it details the monsters you might encounter in the game).
Basically in DnD the Dungeon Master is the one who creates the campaing, the "director" of the game basically. That person usually has to read the 3 books since they need to have a general knowledge of the rules and mechanics to properly run a game. If you're going as a player (which is the best if you are new) the only thing you need to read is the player's book.
Campaing books are optional, they are basically pre-made aventures, but they aren't necessary since the fun in DnD is for the Dungeon Master to make up his own campaing.
