On the one hand, work is a way in which I as a man try to find some scrap of meaning, such as it is, and as disappointing as that may be once I find it, but nevertheless something more than a void.
On the other hand, if I happen to find myself disagreeing with Bertrand Russell, my first instinct is that I may be missing something, much as I disagree with him on so many subjects.

One way to think about it is these are sort of aspirational ideas for society. Realistically people are going to be working for a long time to come. But for example with automation do we need/want most men and women working 40 hours a week for 30+ years each.
Also you get into the definition of 'work'. A guy with money who doesn't have to work, but there is good money for a job so he takes it. Is different than someone having to work or face eviction and starvation.

I can't get a job working in the public without being ridiculed for my face. The way i look pisses people off so people decide to remind me how ugly i am every moment of my miserable existence. It has to do with the fact that money maxing and getting surgeries take time. Several years if you plan big surgeries. And if you go through all of that hassle, then you're probably not just doing that for increased respect from other men and kids. That will probably not motivate you enough.
