It's a whole different world where there is so much more hope and dreams, where anything happens and does for a reason. Compared to real life, where people are cutthroat and careless. I had to stop watching it, I've never experienced life like they have, or found friends like those characters have had their whole life... you could watch an anime with a guy who has a great life without trying, and have reality treat you like dog shit right after because of how you look.

Anime is meant to be an ideal reality in which dreams come true and epic tales are told, real life is a depressing tale of survival and class warfare with betrayal making its debuts every once in a while.
ER had the same philosophy regarding WoW and how it immersed him into a world of equality and adventure he became addicted to.

Anime is incredibly dangerous for young, lonely men. That's why there have been so many hikkikomori in Japan; they get addicted to the ideal world of anime. It is very depressing, and that's why I've been trying to ween off it.

WoW really destroyed my work ethic in real life.

I was really into it (addicted, played every single day, only thought of WoW) in high school. In WoW the more time you put in the more reward you get. I learned that real life is not like that and pretty much gave up in high school, barely graduated.

Anime is also so unreal, it teaches you nothing when it comes to social skills. People, especially women, will never act like anime. I've only met one person who acted kind of like out of an anime. But well, I am kind of a shut-in and when out and about autistic and shy, so I don't see/meet many people.

What makes reality suck so much isn't just the depression. Sometimes that stuff can make you feel alive. It's the mundanity of it (and insignificance) all that is truly unbearable. Ever wonder why the cucked normies are into bdsm roleplay? Their bitchass trying to cope with how boring they are and to signal how unvanilla they are.

But I know what you mean. Especially in vidya games, jrpgs and such, where you go on journeys and meet friends along the way and you're all pretty and you do meaningful things.
