This makes me a lot angrier than it should, but I’m just incensed at the state of this once very incel-friendly hobby. No politics, no drama, just simple mindless fun, that was the old state of anime.

Now things are different. It’s hard to find an anime account online that isn’t one of those LGBT pandering trans flag-waving soyboy faggots. But one of the worst problems is all these girls getting into anime.

Sometime last year my friend was talking to some girl I knew from high school on his phone, and when he left to get gas he told me to talk to her so she’d stay on the line. We eventually talked about anime, and it turned out she watched a lot of stuff. Mob psycho, Hunter X Hunter, and tons of other shows. The problem is this girl is as much of a normie Stacy as you can get, and only watches those shows because her boyfriend introduced her.

Now she’s out on her “finata” (alternate Instagram account) posting about those shows, introducing other normies and Stacies to them. I eventually blocked her after she called me ugly and made fun of me going to the gym all the time, but every now and then I see her account when a friend shows me, and she’s still posting these retarded anime memes. Now she knows of the existence of Love Live thanks to those stupid videos where they mash up idol anime with garbage normie music.

Now why is this such a big problem? What this is doing is deteriorating a community that was once very favorable towards us. Now it’s just another niche no different from tv, movies, or music. They unironically use incel as an insult there. One of the last bastions for incel communion has now been overrun by normie scum.

yes, like i said, anime is becoming more popular, but at the same time, creators of anime seem to be targeting more specific groups of otaku who buy a lot of merch.
in the top 10 anime of this season (https://myanimelist.net/anime/season) there's literally only one normiecore anime without any heavy fanservice and otaku bantering - vinland saga. now, if we look at random season thirty years ago (https://myanimelist.net/anime/season/1992/spring), all top ten shows are normiecore for kids or girls without any fanservice or lewdness.

Anime used to be hard to get into, you might have to pay $40 for a VHS tape with 2 episodes on it. Now you can stream any anime you want for free from hundreds, if not thousands of sites. Anything that becomes easily accessible, will almost always get co-opted by normies and now SJW’s.

Same, I've been almost exclusively watching 80s/90s anime for the last 2 years. The only good anime series that came out of the 2010s was the Monogatari series and a few slice of life shows. Other than that, anime has absolutely gone to shit and only braindead normalfags still care about stuff that's airing seasonally. The anime industry today is just one big scam meant to sell merchandise and overpriced streaming services to naive soyboys.
It also looks like shit these days, I fear that anime is going to be CG-only soon when looking at how little 2D animation modern shows actually have.

i've watched close to 3000 anime, and i have to agree with you. as much as i like modern anime, the quality is decreasing. i think it's because in the past talented animators only worked on few shows each season, but nowadays with 40+ shows each season, the talent is spread too thin. they also seem to be focusing on fanservice and boosting blu-ray sales instead of creating art.

When I first started watching anime years ago, my standards were of course a bit lower but I really cannot stand watching romcom harem shows or whatever anymore and I only really enjoy anime that have some sort of artistic value.

I would say that the real cut-off point was 2007/2008 when the financial recession hit. Before that, you had digital shows that still looked fairly good and had some passion put into them (examples: Kannagi, Lucky Star, Kamichu) but after the recession, it seemed that anime just hit a nosedive that it has never recovered from. And to me personally, the airing of Sword Art Online marks the official death of anime as this is when the medium stopped producing anything worthwhile for adults and put its focus entirely on self-insert harem shows for teenagers.

oh yeah, 2018 has to be the worst year in history of anime since maybe 70s. among hundreds of shows made in 2018, only four were decent (yuru camp, after the rain, banana fish, bloom into you), but none of them were 8/10 or above. but pls check out some shows from 2019, this year seems to be significantly better than the previous one. i personally think second season of mob psycho is one of the best sequels in the history of anime, a true 9.5/10 show. maybe you'd enjoy vinland saga, dororo, endro, carole & tuesday and sarazanmai as well.

Dororo seems quite interesting from the PV and was not something I expected from this current era of anime, I will check that out soon. I'm big into more mature action series like the original Berserk, Shigurui, Samurai Champloo etc.

I actually thought it was visually ugly but it's hard to describe in words why. It's like they went too far with making everything look pretty and it just didn't work with digital. Also, I didn't really find it relaxing because of the characters' personalities and the fact the show often depicts them in cold environments which just make me feel uncomfortable.
I prefer shows like Yuru Yuri and Non Non Biyori when it comes to this genre.
