Women have been the gatekeepers of sex for a long time.

If a man was too cynical in relation to and very conscious of women's nature, he probably would have been selected out of the gene pool.

I do not think women were able to simply select men out of the gene pool in the past, as the selectiveness demonstrated within the sexual market today is an aberration of modern society; in the past, their nature was restrained by most societies, and there were more pressing survival-related issues to worry about. The level of female worship in modern society is primarily a social issue, which is obviously rooted in some biological predisposition — that being the biological drive to reproduction as well as our basic need for connection and intimacy.
