It's similar to how AoT incorporates nationalist themes yet is written by an Asian guy & features a WMAF couple as the main characters 
I've heard that this isn't meant to be cucked, but rather that some Japanese see themselves as "white-adjacent," or at least closer to whites than they are to other East Eurasians. You see this in some manga/anime, where Chinese/Koreans are given stereotypical Asian appearances while Jap characters are drawn with the typical Eurasian-esque look.
My guess is this is a mix of a superiority complex over other Asians (resulting from Japan's past as a colonial power) and Japs wanting to assert proximity to the Anglos who buck-broke them in WW2. Thankfully, this seems to mainly be a thing of the past; I've heard EA/SEA migrants are fairly integrated into Japanese society & culture nowadays
