I don’t interact with children so I can’t say that they are innocent. But from what I remember as a kid, you could tell what kids were animalistic assholes from like age 8 or so. I don’t think children are innocent as soon as they know how to lie and regular punishment is ineffective.

I think as a child I would qualify myself as good, too good that I was a pushover and subjected to bullying. I can say there was times I was an asshole but it was rare and mostly bad crowd encouraged. But I do remember as a kid always not wanting to disappoint my parents even if they were distant probably because they were distant I felt like I had to contribute more and do more.
