If you calculate what makes a helpful action based upon the energy cost versus the harm reduction, it's difficult to create a positive outcome. Remember that every tool cost many people effort during the process of making it, nevermind the energy spent in getting it to you. That's not to say that you can't truly help people, as you absolutely can, but most examples are either rare or they're widely considered to be wrong.
