One thing that gets me into rock collecting is knowing that the Earth is stronger than humans. Human nature tried to screw Earth over with pollution and destroying the land with roads and cities.
I just got back from West NC, very torn up from hurricane Helene. Hundreds died, and they are still finding body parts. I went to an abandoned park that used to be lush but is now mud, debris, stones, and downed trees.
The hurricane reaching that far is incredibly unusual. For one, West NC got a foot of rain a week before which made the soil incredibly wet therefore less absorbent to the more water to follow from the hurricane, which caused 20 foot high flooding all through the mountain range in the affected areas.
I saw the aftermath of houses collapsed in, taken off their foundation and dragged down the river. Huge mounds of debris being dumped into farmland, small mounds pushed to the side just to clear roads. I could tell people died here, drowned, torn apart by the heavy forces of water. Everything smelled of dust and death.
Women may be hypergamous, chads may be tall, but when the Earth wants its Earth back, it will take it.
