This is a common talking point I see about AI, this is simply exaggerated/untrue.

Generative AI in the grand scheme of things doesn’t use any significant amount of water AI Water usage

This sounds like a lot until you realize any app that has an algorithm uses water, manufacturing, and anything that uses electricity.

Of all the reasons to hate AI this is the worse one. You can hate on the fact that it’s owned by Jews or that it can be used as surveillance, or even the fact that it could replace wageslaving jobs, or that it removes critical thinking from people but these people choose the most idiotic reason.

very boring take but AI is only really harmful when it's used to replace human creativity. the whole thing about it taking jobs reminds me of how people rioted over clothing becoming easily mass-produced (because of some invention i forgot) and how today it seems pretty silly. this is probably how future generations will look at AI replacing some jobs

Why is this where normies draw the line and randomly become ambientalists? I see everyone complaining about the AI water usage online. Then maybe they drive a SUV to go buy milk (which wastes way more energy than AI). Or they stream 4K movies on Netflix all day. I'd assume that even the CO2 waste produced by the AI industry itself would be more damaging for the environment than its water usage.

As usual idiots hop on whatever is the current bandwagon without thinking at all. Whenever someone complains about AI's water usage, I know immediately that they were never ambientalists and are just following a trend, because someone who cares just a little would know that of all the things you could complain about of AI, this is the least important and the least impactful one.
They don't know how a server works, they don't know what things are harming the environment and how much, they don't know anything, and I doubt they actually care, but it's popular to hate on AI now, so they all do it.

And it's funny how those who counter them online by posting a picture of the water cycle, are also mistaken. Yes, water can be consumed beyond the land's capacity, disrupting its balance and drying up it before it can regenerate, but it's not its use on AI or by Elon Musk or whoever people currently want to hate on that causes most of it, in fact the main cause of the abuse of fresh water sources is agriculture, with its unsustainable systems, along with the melting of the permanent glaciers at its sources which again is not caused by AI.
