1- why do I need to exactly know it? You don't know it, either, you believe a book, while I try to believe a theory made through observations over decades, if not centuries, which is still not the perfect answer, but it at the least a belief equal to a religious one proof-wise.
2- Do YOU have any proof for something else? Once again, I've based my answer on the fact that humans have their consciousness in the brain, so it's logical that the consciousness (and the life with it) stops when the person dies.
3-Life exists because of a chain of events that formed the first amino acids, which then formed into the first forms of life etc.. Also, "survival", doesn't mean having a good life, it means surviving, the only times when a person loses the drive to survival is caused by a malfunctioning hormonal system. I do not commit suicide because I still have the drives, the fact that the consciousness sets a high chance of it not happening doesn't automatically turn off the drives, which are in the subconscious. I'm not too closed to the idea, anyway.
