Ferdinand Cheval (19 April 1836 – 19 August 1924) was a French postman who spent thirty-three years of his life building Le Palais idéal (the "Ideal Palace") in Hauterives. The Palace is regarded as an extraordinary example of naïve art architecture.
After the death of his first spouse, he remarries in 1878 with Claire-Philomène Richaud who would die in 1914 and who brings as dowry the equivalent of two years salary of a postman as well as a small property, that allow him to purchase a plot of land in Hauterives
Imagine a world where women have to pay to marry men

While bride price or bride service is a payment by the groom or his family to the bride's parents, dowry is the wealth transferred from the bride's family to the groom or his family, ostensibly for the bride.
