Ferdinand Cheval (19 April 1836 – 19 August 1924) was a French postman who spent thirty-three years of his life building Le Palais idéal (the "Ideal Palace") in Hauterives. The Palace is regarded as an extraordinary example of naïve art architecture.

After the death of his first spouse, he remarries in 1878 with Claire-Philomène Richaud who would die in 1914 and who brings as dowry the equivalent of two years salary of a postman as well as a small property, that allow him to purchase a plot of land in Hauterives

While bride price or bride service is a payment by the groom or his family to the bride's parents, dowry is the wealth transferred from the bride's family to the groom or his family, ostensibly for the bride.
Dowry was widely practiced in Europe until the early modern era.

Imagine a world where women have to pay to marry men

You're super high IQ

Sounds nice, but it makes sense when men were legally responsible to care for their wives and for their conduct. I guess because we all are born into modern society, many of us struggle with understanding just how differently the world was barely 100 years ago. Your value as a man, even as a ugly, balding, manlet, was many times more what it is now.

I wish i could live in that era

why pay to marry a woman when you can pay to have a woman tied up in your home forever? Low iq.

just be born a long time ago br0

Fuuuuuck I can't even imagine that, it just gets worse as time goes on.

The price of Chad remained however

The value and power of women have increased by more than a thousandfold; before, they had to pay the equivalent of $200,000 to marry a poor postman, while now, men have to spend at least $2000 in dating site fees, nightclub fees, restaurant meals and wedding ring to court a woman, who of course brings nothing to the table financially.

Such a nice idea it was to vote feminist laws!

It is funny to consider how much power women always held politically. I mean, there were the ones pushing for prohibition and the government actually did it and this was before women had the right to vote! Prohibition is arguably one of the most retarded laws ever attempted by the US government as evidenced by how quickly they abandoned it.
