much of enjoyment of stuff like this, video games, dice games etc involve compartmentalization

you have imagination and dissociation, the ability to put yourself into a character's place

you (willfully at first, unconsciously later) suspend disbelief

it makes you think "maybe a girl secretly likes me and I'm too dense to notice", pretty great cope NGL
