Sure, however I doubt not having this system in place would increase the amount of high quality posts. The reality is that if we only had high quality posts then we would have very little activity overall.

What I don't think many people understand is that many of us high posters aren't doing it with any intention of "ranking up" or anything like that. It's compulsive. It's a cope. We can't stop ourselves. It's like an addiction.

I think it's funny that there are people out there actively trying to "post more" while I am constantly trying to tell myself to post less.
