It has definitely overtaken modern American TV shows and movies. Then again, I'm going off of what I'm seeing on the internet. I used to watch a lot of TV shows. I remember the heydays of American TV. There were dedicated discussion communities around the popular shows of that time. Even smaller-scale cable shows had great fan bases.
As for movies, American tentpole movies are barely breaking even nowadays, while anime movies are breaking records. Obviously, that's not fair to Hollywood since only the most popular Anime films see the light of day in the American box office, but zoomers don't really care for movies now. The discussion and fanboyism over movies, which were always fueled by young folks, have died down. Zoomers literally don't give a shit about Star Wars.
