The father of Lyric Farrell said the mother of the two-year-old should not have been recently allowed custody of the child, who was found battered and bruised weeks later, and ultimately pronounced dead at a hospital in Boston on Tuesday.
A young father is speaking out after his two-year-old daughter was found in her mother’s Whitman home unconscious, battered and bruised, clinging to life as she was brought by helicopter to a hospital in Boston, where she ultimately died after being taken off life support on Tuesday.
Farrell said he and the mother had a short but troubled relationship, marked by accusations of domestic abuse against him, which he denies. Farrell said Lyric was their only child together, and Farrell said he believes the mother harmed the two-year old as a form of revenge against him.
“I’m very upset,” Farrell said. “There is no way these are self inflicted wounds. ... It was one motive and one motive only – harm Chris’s heart.”
Farrell said his own mother moved to Boston in 2018 after living for 18 years in Florida, in order to be a foster parent for Lyric, after he and Lyric’s mother were declared unfit as parents. Farrell said he was never convicted of any abuse, he claimed that he was the one assaulted several times by the mother, and he denies ever attacking the mother. Farrell said he tried to warn criminal authorities and DCF about the mother’s violent behavior. Farrell said in one instance, the mother was caught on video storming into his workplace at a Boston Chipotle, and that she used a Taser on his manager during the incident.
“No one believed me until now,” Farrell said. “I’m someone they didn’t want around (Lyric). I adored her the most. I’m the one who should have had custody.”
Farrell said his family members are devastated by Lyric’s tragic death, and they’re looking for justice.
“My mother is heartbroken. My aunt is heartbroken. They dedicated their lives to raising the child,” Farrell said. “I’m very upset.”
Farrell said Lyric was a healthy girl, until the mother was allowed to have custody.
“Lyric never had anything wrong with her,” Farrell said. “As soon as they gave her back, she was killed .”
