18-year-old Rotterdam stranded in Egypt after unexpected childbirth
She can hardly believe it. The 18-year-old Britt van Baarle from Rotterdam gave birth to a son during a holiday in the Egyptian resort of Aladdin Beach, while she did not know she was pregnant. She wants to return to the Netherlands soon, but that is not easy.
"Britt suddenly called us last week that she had given birth to a son", says her mother Sylvia van Baarle to RTV Rijnmond . "She thought she had eaten something wrong, had a bit of diarrhea, and later she went back to the bathroom, and then the head already came out, and within five minutes the baby was born."
The delivery went smoothly afterwards. "She cut the umbilical cord with a pair of nail scissors, her telephone was empty, so she could not call anyone at that moment, and she was taken to the hospital in the evening." Mother and son Yassin are doing well right now.
The family prefers to go home as quickly as possible, but that is difficult because the father is not known. The father is required to indicate the child, so that a passport can be applied for. "This has been an onenight setting and the father is undetectable now", says Van Baarle.
Unpleasant situation
The Dutch embassy speaks of an unpleasant situation. "We understand very well that Britt wants to travel home with her child as soon as possible, and we understand that her baby came into the world unexpectedly, which means that, unfortunately in Egypt, it takes a bit more time than usual to get a travel document."
The embassy will help Britt and her family "to bring the situation to a successful conclusion as soon as possible".

Granny reacted in the first instance shocked to the arrival of baby Yassin, but she is now ready for that shock. Immediately after the bell, she flew to Egypt, carrying a suitcase full of baby stuff that had been bought in haste. "When I saw the photo, I was in love, the child is more than welcome."The family prefers to go home as quickly as possible, but that is difficult because the father is not known.
