Gen z has really weird views on age. 18-20 year olds think 23 is super old. But if a 30 year old man goes for a 23 year old woman, then suddenly 23 is basically a child and he's groomer. But then a lot of my male coworkers are 18-22 and dating women well into their 30s and no one thinks that's "problematic".
The funny thing is back when I was growing up, some of it was the other way around. The saying used to be "30 is the new 20". I always thought that was cope, but with zoomers 30 is the new 50.
In the eyes of my zoomer coworkers, my birthplace might as well have been Pangea. One of my coworkers who was hired recently is 18 and he treats me with fascination. Like I'm the last living member of a tribe that went extinct or something. He's blown away I can remember 9/11. He also has really weird views on what the 2000s were like. He unironically thinks race conditions were literally Jim Crow level until BLM and that whites were just going around gunning down black people with impunity. I didn't bother correcting him and he'd probably think I was a racist for denying this anyway. He also didn't know the internet existed 25 years ago beyond just "e-mail". Makes me wonder if my views on what the 1980s must have been like are as distorted as what he and other 18 year olds think the 2000s were like.
