In an all-too-common tragedy, a 13-year-old boy jumped to his death last week in the city Shenzhen over having not finished his winter break homework.
According to the child’s parents, the 7th-grader named Xiao Jin went to school on February 21st for the first day of the new semester. However, he was sent home just halfway through the day by a teacher who told him to complete the homework that he had been assigned for the winter holiday which he had neglected to do.
Instead, the boy left behind a suicide note and leaped to his death.
But as usual, no one cares:
Chinese schools and parents have a reputation for putting immense pressure on youngsters, sometimes causing them to break and attempt suicide. However, on Weibo, many net users have stood up for the teacher, arguing that the teacher was only doing his/her job.
“If a child doesn’t do his homework, shouldn’t the teacher be able to ask him to make it up?” reads one popular comment.
I know for a fact if this was a girl who killed herself, the entire world would be set alight and the teacher would be put behind bars.
