If the only compliment you ever get is that you're "intelligent", then it probably means you're an incel or an LTN dork that's pretty close to it (over half of all men). What good is it to be smart if one doesn't have the social capital to put that IQ to good use? Being smarter than other people is both worthless and useless without it being used to make oneself more powerful in some way. No money or power = no one gives a shit about your amazing concepts and ideas.

When I had bad grades in math in high school, they told me that I was stupid. When I started studying in the last year and I got good grades, they told me that I was a genius. Intelligence is the most meaningless compliment, because nobody can judge it well.

But there is a worse compliment that you could get: being told that you have 'potential'. It's the only other one I've ever gotten. When you have no redeeming qualities, if someone is forced to be nice with you he'll have nothing to compliment but that. And the worst part is that I've already reached my full potential, so not even that is true. I have literally zero qualities that are worthy of praise.
