I almost made a commitment to try to enter a monastery in Mount Athos, since it seems one of the few places left in Christendom that is still traditional and how it must have been in the middle ages, but i'm too old and too brain damaged to go starting about learning a whole new language and go to a whole new country, so i'm looking for a more realistic option. A lot of them have age restrictions though, which is a problem.

Becoming a monk is not realistic at all unless you truly have an interest and knowledge in Christianity (and master the language of the monastery indeed...) I've also read they ask for reference letters. If you don't have a parish priest who can vouch for you, it's already harder.
