It's canon even if it's not very relevant to the story. And even if it's the most hated arc I have to say I kinda enjoyed it. Overlord is def in my top 10 anime of all time I even read the LN

I think season 1 is really good.

I haven't gotten past season 2 yet tho

Overlord went downhill fast after first season nothing really happens in S2-S4 and bad cgi made me laugh in that one big fight that he obviously won.

NGL I was very prejudiced with the Isekai genre (9 out of 10 are garbage) but loved Overlord and even read the light novels. Also for once the main characters are the bad guys so it's not as generic as you would expect.

About the main character he's not a NEET he's an overworked salaryman but it's stated he doesn't have much luck with dating and friends apart from his online homies so ricecel tier.

Does it get darker in the LNs? His inner monologues kinda break that idea of "I'm the bad guy". Most of the time he acts like "I need to be bad otherwise my companions might eat me alive".

Volumes 12 and 13 (the movie that came out this year but it's in cinemas only for now) are quite dark tbh and I guess they will have to be toned down for the anime version. In volumes 15 and and 16 not much happens but by how volume 16 ends I can imagine the last two volumes (it will be 18 volumes confirmed) will be dark again.
