I've read a book titled "Nothing to Envy", it's a collection of personal stories by Nork defectors, not about NK itself but about daily life.

Edible food: It's very poor and many live on the bare minimum of food allowed. Unless you're rich, you're limited to a small range of dishes. Human shit is used to grow food, that's how poor they are.

Clean: Mainly Pyongyan, other places have dirt roads and outdated infrastructure.
