The tertiary sector is largely dominated, demographically, by two types of persons.
This might not be the case everywhere of course. But this remains true for an overwhelming majority of companies and professional structures in this sector. This reality usually leads to a particular working culture, which has its specificities: thus, in appearance and at first, most people will seem generally pleasant, friendly and caring. As soon as you scratch a little under the surface of things, you will discover hatreds, gossip, manipulations, stakes of power and influence.

Which brings, for example:
- The salary is only rarely perceived as the reward of the work accomplished: it is perceived as something due at the end of the month, no matter the work done or the results obtained.
- More generally, the work is considered in a strange way: it is not a task that you're paid to achieve because nobody would be stupid enough to do this for free. It is a place in which human fulfillment and the pleasure of spending the day are fundamental pillars. (That's why we've seen recently new bullshit jobs like Chief Happiness Officer...) The need to make efforts, or even to endure stress or hardship, is totally ignored. For the precious snowflakes that are your colleagues, the concept of effort is disconnected from the notion of work.
- For your colleagues, efficiency and competence won't be a criteria for evaluating other people. Their evaluation will be based on the human relations maintained, the complicity, the mutual support, and other mental femoid bullshit. Few will be able to recognize the professional qualities of a person they do not appreciate personally. The quality of the service or the professional efficiency are only rarely recognized bases of evaluation. Groups affected by a feminized mentality tend, for example, to estimate the effort provided more than the result: a failure that has required great efforts will be considered more meritorious than a quick success that has not asked a lot of work. Which is the exact opposite of a pragmatic approach.
- Any difference in treatment or rights between employees will be perceived as undue if it is to the disadvantage of your colleagues; on the other hand, it will be perceived as totally legit in the opposite case.
- A very considerable portion of the workday will be spent in pointless discussions. Meetings that could end in ten minutes in terms of content will take at least an hour. Even outside of these meetings, the transmission of various information relating to feelings, personal well-being, anecdotes unrelated to work or otherwise, will consume at the very least thirty to forty minutes of the day of each of your colleagues. On the other hand, relevant and work-related information may not be transmitted on time, or in an incomplete, or imperfect manner.
