They do because in developed countries, there is legislation in place to ensure that those animals are treated at least "okay" until the times comes for the chop, and even at that point you can (and people do) get prosecuted for causing undue suffering. If people didn't care at all then none of that shit would be in place at all because all it does is cost money purely for animal welfare reasons, its not economically logical at all.
Thats why the 3rd world dumps cram about 6 in a small cage, and slit the poor fuckers throats and let them bleed out, while all the time beating the shit out of them to go where they want them to go.
