Not really. The mass production of livestock animals exists and people don't care.
They do because in developed countries, there is legislation in place to ensure that those animals are treated at least "okay" until the times comes for the chop, and even at that point you can (and people do) get prosecuted for causing undue suffering. If people didn't care at all then none of that shit would be in place at all because all it does is cost money purely for animal welfare reasons, its not economically logical at all.
Thats why the 3rd world dumps cram about 6 in a small cage, and slit the poor fuckers throats and let them bleed out, while all the time beating the shit out of them to go where they want them to go.
Our society facilitates the mass creation of animals for the sole purpose of human consumption, so this shouldn't come as any surprise.
Even if the treatment of the animals was largely acceptable, which it really isn't, the precedent is what matters most. The whole process is sickening.
