In modern relationships people believe in equality between partners. Women no longer submit to their husbands and instead see equal partnership where both people are one the same level.
Why then do women still insist on dating older guys if they are over this old fashioned patriarchal custom?
The reason is power. In general older people are seen as more powerful; They have earned more resources and higher positions within their workplace. Even outside the workforce older people are seen as "worth more". They are more educated, have more life experience and thus people tend to listen to them more as authority figures.
Girls liking older guys made sense in the olden days when they would submit to their husbands and follow traditional gender roles. Women accepted that they were worth less than their husbands and obeyed them because they knew they were wiser.
Today women believe they are on the same level as their partners. They make friends with their partners friends and believe their opinion are with the same if not more than their husbands. This means when women date and marry older guys they are often pulling themselves up in life.
When a junior girl dates a senior she is essentially telling every boy in her year group that she is worth more than them and that she is better than them.
Meanwhile guys who date younger girls are viewed as pathetic and creepy. Essentially girls want to date a guy who can "pull them up" in life without giving any of the submission or the respect women usually had to give It older men in historical times.
Girls make guys feel creepy and guilty for liking them if they are younger unless the girl likes them back. Then the age gap doesn't matter.
