When one is perceived as "oppressed", everyone feels sympathy for them, thinks their problems are bigger than they are, helps them out, simps to them, and bail them out for their bad decisions.

Men, meanwhile, are "privileged", so if a man has any problems, no one takes it seriously, since he is so "privileged", and he just has to suck it up with no support.

Everyone was or is oppressed. Including men.

That's the official justification of leftists and a reason why almost all far left parties today see men as more privileged than women.

But for society as a whole it's more because women are loved more than men, have more sex appeal than most men and because society has an irrational hatred and obsession with putting down weak unattractive males.

where does this hatred stem from though? does it not stem from men being portrayed as privileged, and women as being oppressed?

No that's just the official reason.
You see it in the shaming tactics lobbed against MRAs, mgtows and incels. Society doesn't like what they see as weak unattractive males objecting to the low place society has assigned them to and at the same time finds them complaining about their issues with women and society to be repugnant, whiny and hateful.
Society feels entitled to shut down any discussion of these issues unless it is from a pre-approved perspective where women are never at fault or if they are it's excused and still blamed on men.

This could probably be applied to any social hierarchy in school The cool kids feel entitled to shutting down the losers and safeguarding their high social status, and are legitimately angry at anyone threatening their position at the top.
