Hypergamy has always been a thing. It's just more evident now, because 50 years ago, women didn't have the same rights as men and couldn't work. Most of them had to settle with betabuxxx if they wanted to get fed. Now that they work can pay their own bills, women are free to engage in hypergamy as they please.

Men of the older generations, the one's that never gave women rights, knew what they were doing.
