Interesting finding: the fertility ratio for women with depression was 1.0, so they didn't differ at all from the general population.
Of course the study concluded what we all knew in the 1st place which is that men with mental illness are less likely to find relationships than women who have mental illness. Hence women live lives on easy mode. Women with schizophrenia and autism are twice as likely to have children than men with these same ailments.
Of course the researchers can't just state the obvious, which is that women are far more judgemental than men when it comes to mental illness. But that can't be said publicly because that would be misogyny and who would fund their studies then.Evolutionary theory suggests that male species have the potential for greater variance in reproductive success than female species.
Because of the greater variability in male fitness and the pressure on females to be selective, a genetic or environmental burden can have an exaggerated effect on a male's ability to find a mate.
