Since I love minecraft I might go, but the film doesn't look very good. I'd much rather have an animated production using the same animation as seen in the minecraft trailers.

They killed an opportunity to create a 3 hour long work of art with just Steve in a slowly crippling existential crisis of how he misses home and engineer job. They could have gone deep in the psyche with that like how blade runner 2049 did where it hit the audience with a feeling of existential dread. Only for Steve to have to deal with monsters at night. How he is forced to kill animals for the first time just to survive. Befriending his only friend, a wolf. And made the nether look like something that used to be full of lots of life, but isn't anymore. Cave exploration and finding a mineshaft and in the library finding books on portals, enchanting, etc. really should have been a TV show or something.

Something like this is interesting, theres alot of possibility with a minecraft story, honestly if you are looking for a decent minecraft story, you can try minecraft storymode, it does have some melancholic tones to it at some points since in the game, the situation is dire and the fate of the world is at stake.
I think they wanted a happy go lucky kids movie to cash in on kids, but its so insulting to its older fanbase, and even for kids, it just looks like complete slop, so right now it looks like its failed in every way.
