Could be the skinhead influence from punk idk. Most of the metalheads I knew were pretty accepting. Only a few dumb assholes. The true spirit of metal is supposed to be about the outcasts, freaks, and pariahs of society being united by the love of heavy music and the dark feelings they entail. In a mosh pit everyone is equal and when someone falls, everyone stops to pick them up.
