I developed the neural network when I was 25, and it really isn't that hard to do if you understand multivariable calculus (there is a good resource online for that, I guess I can post if you are interested). Things are even easier today since there are a lot of different frameworks so you don't have to design shit from scratch. There are also plenty of youtube videos that will help you with that today. You will probably naturally move onto more advanced neural networks such as convolutional , spiking, and LSTM neural networks. I would say what my thesis was but again, that would dox me. Developed a crush on the woman that provided me with the bulk of my research. High IQ woman I never met but due to her work I wanna give her babies. 99.99(repeating, of course)% certain she is getting dicked by a Chad.

ANYWAY once I entered the professional world I realized people are not as smart as you think. You are probably selling yourself short. If you want to get into CS I would recommend listening to the OCW introduction to CS lectures here and doing the exercises. If those truly baffle you (trying for a week or so is fine, you are learning and people learn at different rates, when I say "truly baffle" I mean you constantly think all the assignments are impossible) then yea, you don't have the aptitude for this shit.

In regards to math a course in real analysis is good gauge. Real analysis is the foundation for any mathematician and if you don't understand that thoroughly you are pretty much done. There isn't an OCW course with videos on real analysis, but I found this, which seems to be pretty good. The CS equivalent of real analysis is discrete math, but discrete math is only needed in CS if you have to prove your algorithms to other people. Wouldn't worry about that too much in the CS track unless you want to be generalize like I did. The OCW link I posted is a better gauge of your aptitude in CS than a discrete math course.
