Actually, screw that. A lot of websites where you can find hookers on have the word 'escort' in their name.

To some extent women/feminist activists have tried to take "ownership" over words like slut and whore so that it doesn't affect them. They haven't succeeded yet because most people still think that those words are negative, and that using those words is crass.

The word "escort" used to mean a higher class whore who wasn't a street hooker. Someone you could take out on a mock date, or to make people think you had a gf. I think it still retains that meaning for the most part. I don't know what they call hookers in brothels - "sex workers?"

The word "escort" is PC, it was initially an euphemism for call girl. Besides, call girls are one of the worse forms of prostitution, IMHO. They are expensive and they often have an attitude. And you don't get to see them IRL before you agree to the transaction, and that is bad.

Rather use the words "hooker" or "whore".

As I understand it, the thing about escorts is that they often work alone, and they often receive at their place (I went to one, once). That must be scary AF. Imagine inviting a complete stranger in your home, one that is plausibly a pervert. That makes them prudent and suspicious.

Street hookers and whores in brothel work in group, they get protection from the eyes of the other girls, the pimps and the infrastructure of the brothel. That allows them to be more relaxed about stuff, to have more reasonable prices and to refuse fewer clients.
