Why don't we have a regular IRC?

I understand the Discord got shutdown, but why don't we just get a regular IRC? IRCs don't get shutdown (do they?), and just put a Mibbit widget where the discord link used to be.

We did but I believe it was shut down because it wasn't used? It might still be around but I'm not sure as I haven't heard anything about it for weeks.

It was pretty active, but there was also an issue with infiltrators and such.
