Discussion Why does Bulgaria have such a high birth rate?

So why do Bulgaria and Montenegro have such a high birth rate whilst all other European countries are so low?
My personal thesis: Their lack of women's rights and Islamic culture.
Obviously as you can see rather islamic countries have a higher birth rate and while Turkey is low, they are not really muslim. They sort of larp Islam. But in Albania and Bulgaria that is not the case. Could it be because women's rights are never discussed there and because their culture is still traditionalistic in nature?

From what I've gathered there's a hypothesis that the other relatively-high fertility countries haven't yet fully recovered from the shock introduced by the Covid stuff, so it seems that those two are just ahead of the curve.

There is absolutely no country in Europe that has any lack of women's rights in any way. Bulgaria has one of the lowest Gender Development Index (a measure of difference between men's and women's Human Development Index scores, the lower the smaller the difference between them) scores in the world and Montenegro is just below The Netherlands and Iceland.

The current theory is that the entire world is converging to about a 1.7 or 1.8 fertility, and since EE fertility rates collapsed in the 90s, they actually rose back in the last decades making EE the only region in the world where that has happened as the rest is falling.

I will still think it's going to go lower with time. No way it's going to be stable for long. You also have to take into account the gypsy population within Bulgaria.

Yeah, there's a good chance this is just a temporary phenomenon and those countries are going to fall much closer to where they in the 90s very soon, if that isn't already happening with this "Covid drop" they are explaining the recent falls with, with Bulgaria just about to be hit next.

You also have to take into account the gypsy population within Bulgaria.

They are probably the main drivers of this tbh.

Clearly because those are some of the poorest countries in europe. Poorer people breed more (it just happens that way). Also they have more conservative values going on still, with religion being stronger.
