a lot of it is that the media back then was even MORE pro-Chad & Stacy. Also back then, feminism was less of a thing, so women felt more obligated to look and dress in a way that is pleasing to male tastes.

That may be true but on the other hand I saw more average looking men with foids . Even 4 out of tens had more opportunities. however as a 4/10 who was non NT had a hard time even in the 90s.

My guess is a mixture of them being skinnier then most modern day women, the feminist idea of "being pretty is pleasing to the average male so it's bad to look pretty" and adding to that most women have realized they don't nee to look pretty to get attention, along with attitudes towards men and hypergamy didn't seem to be that bad.
