There were numerous versions of the Quran and infact the original Quran of prophet Muhhamad was eaten by goats and the remaining parts burnt never to return ever again.

The standardised Quran was written by Uttman and didnt even have Arabic dots for the vowels. So once again the Quran was changed once more with the one that now has dots.

Uthman's Quran Version Alteration

After the original Quranic manuscripts were damaged or destroyed, Caliph Uthman ibn Affan initiated a standardized compilation of the Quran. This effort aimed to unify the various readings and scripts used by different companions and regions.

The Samarkand Kufic Quran

One of the surviving manuscripts from this period is the Samarkand Kufic Quran, also known as the Mushaf Uthmani. It is a handwritten copy of the Quran in the Kufic script, likely dating back to the 8th or 9th century. The manuscript has undergone alterations and modifications throughout its history, but it remains an important artifact in understanding the Uthmanic compilation.

Key Features of the Uthman Version

  1. Standardization: Uthman’s compilation aimed to standardize the Quranic text, eliminating regional variations and differences in script.
  2. Single Script: The Uthmanic Quran was written in a single script, the Kufic script, which was widely used during that period.
  3. Limited Readings: The Uthmanic Quran focused on a single reading (Ahruf) of the Quran, rather than accommodating multiple readings.
  4. No Dots: Unlike later manuscripts, the Uthmanic Quran does not contain dots (tashkil) to indicate vowel sounds.

The Fate of the Original Manuscripts

According to historical accounts, the original Quranic manuscripts were either eaten by goats or burnt. This led to the need for a standardized compilation, as described above.

Legacy of the Uthman Version

The Uthmanic compilation has had a lasting impact on the development of the Quranic text. It has been the basis for subsequent manuscripts and editions, and its standardized script and reading have been adopted as the authoritative version by many Muslim scholars and communities.

Conclusion

The Uthman version, resulting from the compilation of Caliph Uthman ibn Affan, represents a significant milestone in the development of the Quranic text. Despite the loss of the original manuscripts, this standardized version has ensured the preservation and transmission of the Quranic revelation to future generations.

Quran was orally transmitted and it was more oral than written and if you see the beginning verse of surah baqarah it starts with

الم and It's not pronounced (Alm) but (Aleef, Laam, Meem) because that's how the prophet pbuh pronounced it.

I'm not Arab but In Arabic the Quran was revealed orally and the companions wrote it down.

When Islam spread across regions people started to pronounce differently across regions when reciting Quran seeing this issue Uthman (RA) collected all the sahabas and wrote down a new mushaf by verifying it with their pronunciation and because it was oral and arabs understood and could read accurately without dots.

What he did was not make a new Quran but to accurately align with the original reading and solve the problem or regional differences in pronunciation.

That's how far I know

okay thanks now I think i understand.

So you saying the original Quran which was oral was not changed but the problems coming from different accents and regions was solved by making one standardised version for all muslims everywhere?

By the way Islam stole a whole bunch of shit from Orthodoxy but nobody talks about it

Qur'an had variations and then it was standarized in other 7 types of readings or "Qir'aat".
Then why do muslims say the Quran was NEVER changed or altered but now after research we find the original transripts were burnt and eaten by goats. Besides the various different versions there is the Utman version and then now with dots as well.

This is what confuses me. And this is why I am asking why do muslims say this if it is not true at all?

Do you understand now?

ok prove it, how are going to know what exactly you mean without some background evidence?

Well, if you take the Uthmanic codex and take it as "a Qur'an that has never been changed", then, they're right. If you mean that the Qur'an never had other versions in its born, then, that's historically questionable as you reported. The vowels-consonant punctuation came years later because it was hard for people to read without transcription and then it was standarized as it was.

Muslims gonna be apologetics on their thing, so they do not care at all.

I always understood you, but we're talking about different things.

Ok got you

Makes sense

Okay got you.

I guess those muslims that say this are standardised sunni muslims that read the standardised Uthmanic codex? I doubt Shia will make such a claim?

I doubt Shia will make such a claim?
Some shias believe the Qur'an has been changed by sunnis, other do not. But at the end of the day, the use the Uthmani one.
I guess those muslims that say this are standardised sunni muslims that read the standardised Uthmanic codex?
Most probably not.

They read only hadiths?
No Qur'an, no hadith. Most muslims are ignorant of their own religion, that's why you'll find many apologetics of "islam is peace, Muhammad only defended himself, jihad is only defensive"...
Is it not the duty of muslims to memorise the Quran? Or do most muslims only memorise some few Surahs for salah?
It is a duty, yes.

And yeah, most people I know only know no more than the 3 surat that end the Qur'an to pray, that's it. But, mandatory, the only mandatory one is Al-Fatiha for prayer.

Yea I never understood lying Muslims, it's one thing to portray your religion as a peaceful one and another thing to just outright lie or show fake or bad translations either you're too dumb or you're too big of an hypocrite to be even considered a human with any honour just like normies

The seven Qirā’āt (modes of recitation) of the Qur'an refer to seven authentic ways of reciting the Qur'an that were revealed to the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ).

These 7 modes of recitation were not something they made up after prophet pbuh was no longer in this world.

Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) said :

"Indeed, this Qur'an has been revealed in seven Ahruf (modes), so recite it in the way that is easy for you."
— (Sahih al-Bukhari, 4992; Sahih Muslim, 818)

This hadith confirms that Allah allowed the Qur'an to be recited in different modes to accommodate the linguistic differences among the Arabs.

These modes differ in pronunciation, dialect, and minor linguistic variations and that does not change the Quran and the Qur'an still remains unchanged even if recited in these 7 "different" modes.

Because all of them are allowed and authentic.

Another hadith to further prove my point

`Umar ibn al-Khattab (RA) narrated:

"I heard Hisham bin Hakim reciting Surah Al-Furqan during the lifetime of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ). I listened to his recitation and noticed that he recited in several different ways which the Prophet (ﷺ) had not taught me. I was about to jump over him during his prayer, but I controlled my temper. When he finished, I tied his garment around his neck and dragged him to the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ). I said, 'O Messenger of Allah, I heard him recite Surah Al-Furqan in a way you did not teach me!' The Prophet (ﷺ) said, 'Release him, O `Umar. Recite, Hisham.' Hisham recited, and the Prophet (ﷺ) said, 'It was revealed in this way.' Then the Prophet (ﷺ) asked me to recite, and I did. The Prophet (ﷺ) said, 'It was revealed in this way too. This Qur'an has been revealed in seven Ahruf, so recite whichever is easiest for you.'"
— (Sahih al-Bukhari, 2419; Sahih Muslim, 818)

So you see my point both of them or if I say 7 of them are authentic and the way it was revealed and they don't change the core message and also it was allowed by Allah and Prophet Pbuh let us know. So it can't be considered a change cause if they made this change after 632 ad ie after the death of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ
That could be considered a change but since it was allowed by Allah and he ﷺ had let us know that it is permissible and all are allowed hence it DOES NOT change the Quran.

It may sound confusing cause I wrote it in a hurry.

Arabic dialects differed from region to region and those living in another region had issue related to dialect so 7 modes of reciting were revealed in the lifetime of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and they differed in dialects and other stuff but recited the same message and all of them were allowed and because it was allowed by Allah and prophet ﷺ told it can be recited any of these 7 ways.

Everything Muslims believe is dumb.
