Why do movies act like crime lords have miserable lives?

Like obviously most crimes lords in history got arrested or murdered but usually movies try to act like their lives before that were bad. Look at the drug lords in Latin America, mexico especially, and tell me that they're miserable. Women throwing themselves at them, money, power. Look at the instagram accounts some of them have, they live like kings and pretty much run the countries they reside in. I'm not trying to glorify them but even if their get blown out onto a table they will have had a better life then the average guy in 2020 will have.

It's an attempt to show that "leading a life of crime is bad" but the truth is that they actually have good lives, their only mistake was getting caught. It's basically a way in order to placate the masses and keep things orderly, if everyone knew that leading a better life was as simple as crimemaxxing then we would have chaos in society.

I'm sure it's stressful, but all the benefits have to outweigh the costs. I mean, El Chapo had famous musicians writing heroic folksongs about him that were very popular

I think that Pablo Escobar did have a pretty miserable life even after he made all of his money. This is because he was constantly being hunted by the US and Latin American authorities.

He had severe stomach problems/gastritis because he was so stressed out all the time about being hunted. And at the end he looked like absolute shit with a beard and he was fat and living with some really old woman who was his kids nanny before. People said he had sex with her, too. That shows you how low things sank for him.

I think if you don't feel safe in your home, and you're constantly worried about raids, its hard to really be happy. He told a lot of people that he was truly addicted to the business and he was lobbying to legalise cocaine in Colombia. Also in Mexico the drug lords only last like six months these days. Most of them. They kill each other off and then new ones take the old ones place and take over their business. Theres no way I could handle that stress/pressure and still be happy.
