I always LOATH if a Boomer calls out a Gen Z with "Wenn du mal etwas ordentliches gelernt hättest" or "If you would have learned something useful" complaining about income.
Now, every single Job offer probably tells you that you need a Bachelor or Masters in a VERY SPECIFIC FIELD. Now you can't suddenly become a Analytical Chemist if you have a Bachelors in Marketing or Gender Studies or something like that. Tho some Bachelors Degrees like my current one are more "flexible" aka thus being certain Degrees that allow you to essentially work in a field even tho you have no real experience or direct knowledge of that specific field. So if you studied Environmental Engineering you could work as a Analytical Chemist or if you have a Bachelors in Marketing you can apply to be a Manager in a Business.
Regardless, besides the number the absolvents who have degrees (females actually now outcompete males regarding degrees) is rising, the true reasons why college degrees aren't really worth jackshit lie in college itself:
You don't really learn anything!
The reason for that is complex, Gen Zs are formost not as stress resistant as older Generations, neither - and thats statistically proven - do Gen Zs have the means to "take in knowledge". Gen Z lacks motivation and focus. No one really is focused anymore. Sure Social Media and Short form content as well as doom scrolling, became the norm, but the reasons Degrees are more useless and thud worthless for Gen Z is that the education system is a massive failure.
When I was in college, one professor said to us we are "teaching" you guys 5 years of knowledge in 6 semesters. Even tho most, including me, stayed for 8 semesters or more.
Ultimately this is rhe course why Students dont really LEARN anything to begin with.
The General school system can't keep up with the changes in the world. Web 3, AI, Quantum Computing, Social Media but also social changes like Loneliness and inceldom are realively new for the old school system.
College and University THROW you into a chesspool that is hyper complex and suddenly wants to teach you a very specific field VERY FAST, with vast amounts of knowledge.
We had a very specific class once that was very Hard, when I asked my peers 3 months after the exam to this class were everyone seemed to have passed - they told me "I forgot about it".
I questioned "You guys forgot about a whole class knowledge within 3 months"
"Yes, its Irrelevant, we PASSES IT".
And thats also probably a reason so many students break up their degree and focus on a new one - because its...disturbing. The college system is disturbing the Gen Zs brain.
The knowledge is TAUGHT way to fast and becomes Irrelevant especially when motivation is lacking and most Guys are autistic or have like me ADHD and for me too it was very hard.
The homework gave me NO motivation and I always did it last Minute, because I HAD TO DO IT, but I didn't want to.
Now, we established why degrees are inheritely worthless because Gen Z has no motivation, focus or ambition besides "it pays more money then no degree or even a handwerk/apprentanceship" another reason, Boomers and Gen X are not realizing is AUTOMATION.
Automation rips apart a lot of fields and hyper modernizes them. Deletes Human workers from them.
Those workers end up in their 30s then with either no degree or a useless degree or handwerk/apprentanceship.
In fact more blue collar jobs/handwerk might be underpaid now but will rise in payment in the future.
So we will have a change in Younger Gen Z and Gen Alpha FLEEING college and university in order to get a blue collar job.
A job that might ultimately pay more then just a few dollars/euros above minimum wage.
