Why are UK towns so grim and depressing

Ded srs sometimes I see photos/vlogs of life in the big UK cities like London, Manchester, Leeds, Newcastle, Sheffield and I can see that except the city center (in some cases) the architecture in general looks very old in the bad sense. As if time stopped in the 1980s or 1990s and people never bothered to upgrade or clean.

Lots of badly maintained (darkened walls from smoke and pollution) industrial looking buildings and Victorian terraced homes. Public infrastructure like train stations, clinics or roads also look like they don't get much budget. Trash overflowing the containers and lots of cigarettes and takeout bags in the floor. However rural areas look much nicer.

Do the Brits just care about efficiency and not looks? It's really shocking to me even my country Spain which is much poorer has better maintained roads and buildings look more modern than in the UK. Except Franco's social housing from the 1950s to 1970s but I have to admit those blocks have some charm.

Do the Brits just care about efficiency and not looks? It's really shocking to me even my country Spain which is much poorer has better maintained roads and buildings look more modern than in the UK.

Spain has an estimated GDP per capita of $55,089 according to the IMF in 2023

Meanwhile, the UK has an estimated GDP per capita of $62,574 according to the IMF during the same time period


Not much difference in terms of national prosperity in either country

Its cold there so i think that contributes to the depressing and grim feeling

The council areas suck but the rich areas are always really well maintained but hidden away and the boomers get angry when you hang out there. I got the police called on me for sitting on a hill near some boomers house because it was a nice hill with a nice view. Smoked my joint with my friends, about 5 mins later an undercover police car pulls up and asks me what I'm doing here. Luckily didn't get arrested that day but that stopped us from going there for a long time

Yeah I used to do uber deliveries there sometimes, it’s brutal seeing what you missed out on being born to the wrong family. The people were alright though, you get a lot more tips in those areas

British people are just as retarded as Canadians, they let huge numbers of immigrants move in and give them free stuff. The immigrants don't work, they just mooch off the system. There's no money left over for anyone, high taxes, so nobody has the means to upgrade their living conditions.

It's basically a socialist system, like North Korea, where everyone is broke and living off welfare and everything is in permanent decline. The exact same thing is happening to Canada.
