Which of these games looks like it has higher system requirements?

Which do you think?

In reality here are the recommended specs, lol

The Great Rebellion
CPU:
Intel Core i5
RAM: 8 GB
GPU: GeForce 940 MX
HDD: 2 GB

FEAR 2
CPU:
Core 2 Duo 2.2GHz
RAM: 1.5 GB
GPU: GeForce 8600 GTS
HDD: 12 GB

... why do these little basic indie games require such ludicrous processing power to play them?? XD

one is made in a game engine, the other is made from scratch (probably)

Because unreal engine

Yeah I do understand that modern engines are usually very ambitious, almost regardless of what they're actually generating!

I also don't mean this to seem like I'm picking on this Rebellion game. Apparently it's quite good. It just bothered me how these very basic games now always require pretty high specs!

It reminds me of this game Blank Frame which is designed to look like PS 2 and yet requires a GeForce GTX 760, which is... just a BIT more powerful than a PS 2!

That being said Blank Frame is a really cool game :)

Well that's the answer, it depends on the devs on how much shader shit and game juice they want to render and also maybe because they don't give a shit about compressing sprites or textures. Game engines also make them process heavy in which makes it kinda difficult to optimize I think, some of them really had to dig down the source code to modify the engine.

Yeah I'm not really saying the devs are bad.

I think it will start looking more and more surreal though, which will be interesting!

In 2035 you'll have SNES-style games requiring 2030 specs! heh :)

I knew the answer instantly after seen the gameplay of the first game and then name of FEAR 2. Modern talentless devs are extremely incompetent and they don't even know how to code they are just using blueprints.

So you will know that there will be zero optimization and everything i mean everything that can be automated will be automated.

That indie crap was made through Unity and FEAR 2 was LithTech again but upgraded.

They probably just did not bother with disabling effects that were placed on by default or with inefficient rendering techniques or some lines. in some ini file.

just look at this shit and how many unreadable effects are on the screen at same time

@starystulejarz lol true I see what you mean.

I get that these studios are probably very small and they are just trying to use the engines that seem logical and not worrying about whether it runs on very old hardware.

But yeah it does often result in games that are incredibly inefficient and poorly optimised.

It makes me wonder how much time most of these studios actually put into optimisation or if they feel like these kinds of games are so fundamentally basic that they don't really need to bother.

Oof, people think TGR looks better, lol

Anyway erm, it was only a random example game. Many indie games look like they should be able to run comfortably on a Dreamcast and yet require PS4 or even PS5 specs to run!

It's just a strange phenomenon.

It does strike me as an inefficient way to make games especially because these major engines will continue to become heavier over time.
