Ye he was, another invention I'm proud of is aviation(airplane) from the Wright brothers.
Russians, they were the first to go to space
Russia is underrated a lot imo.

They had quite an impressive land Empire, contributed to the arts & music of the time quite well, and as per above had quite a few achievements.

The same goes for Italy & France as well imo, many overlook them heavily due to certain stereotypes. It's also quite unfortunate to see German achievements downplayed as well; even before WWII they were based.
