Some expensive food can also make you malnourished. If you're a raw vegan for example and only live on raw vegetables and fruits in the west you will become malnourished after some months. Raw vegetables and fruits are way more expensive than processed food if you want to become full from them.

In fact, making your own food/eating inside is a good way for ppl to save money. I am saving a lot of money these days by bringing my own lunch instead of eating out when I go to work.
