Serious Where did "Stacy" come from?

In HS all the super popular preppy blonde type girls were more the Brittneys, the Kristens, etc. Could just be my personal experience but the only "Stacy" I remember was more a plain Jane type girl with glasses (who no doubt in 2018 feels entitled to Chad, but is still certainly no Stacy).
