I don't want to go into details but this is Serbia, a poor place, especially in countryside and on mountains where most of the poor honest families live. Religion and culture are completely different from West so you know who is poor, who is not, who is good, who is bad, who is honest, who isn't, etc... My organization would never go mainstream, it would solely relay on gathering information and observation so i wouldn't end up in situation you mentioned.
