I've almost cried in public before, I just open my eyes as wide as possible and stare up at the sky, trying to dry up the tears, if that makes sense. It has worked for me. Also talk to yourself and try to think about something else.

You cant in the moment you need to get it out beforehand, visualise yourself going outside and then process that same emotion, then its not as prominent anymore in the real situation
