What they are willfully ignorant of is that the people who are dragging up those stats are fat boomers. In Canada (where it isn't so different from the states) it is very rare for me to see a severely overweight person within my own age range (let's say 25 to 35). Neglecting the unfairness of being told to try to date obese people when I myself am not obese (and ignoring the fact that such people would not want to date me), it seems to be implied that we should not even expect to find a partner of a similar age.

I don’t know about Canada, but I’m the midwestern United States, probably 3-4 out of 10 women in their 20’s are obese. Childhood obesity is a major problem in the United States, these women are used to shoveling food into their mouths from childhood.

However.

The scale can't tell a pound of fat from a pound of muscle, and less weight isn't always better. A ripped toned wheyfu can weigh more than a scrawny skellyfu while staying at roughly the same body fat percentage.

Females also tend to gain body fat while they're pregnant (still not an excuse to be a pig after the baby's born, lurking whales).

So while I do agree that we need to man the harpoons and go on a serious whale hunt, penalizing any weight gain at all doesn't seem all that practical. Putting a cap on waist circumference for non-pregnant females is probably the better way to go about this.
