This won't solve all your problems. This won't necessarily get you women or all the other things you want.

But I sincerely believe, that if we had 1 thing that we were very good at, we'd be much happier.

The problem in this day an age is that we're so detached from our work, so distanced from what we study and do, that our lives seem meaningless. We just earn money to pay rent, buy food, and buy a new shiny thing to fill the void.

We as incels also crave women to fill that void, since they're out of our reach. But we'd be much happier and fulfilled if we just had something to be good at. Anything, really. A master at programming, carpentry, anything else you can imagine really.

You could call it a cope, of course, and you wouldn't necessarily be wrong. But out happiness as human beings doesn't only rely on the validation we get from women and sex. Our lack of fulfillment from what we do in our lives causes a lot of misery.

I imagine being good at something real would do wonders for self esteem, you aren't wrong.

Not only self-esteem, but you'd be constantly getting hits of dopamine. Like when you play a video game and you get really good at it, maybe you go on a killing spree. You feel good, but at a certain age that feeling fades, it's empty, you know it's just a fake achievement. Being good at something in real life would actually feel genuine, the dopamine hits would be much stronger. Imagine finishing a project that took you tens of hours, and you can actually sell it for a good profit. Or just display it and people admire you for it. And you could make money off it, which would just add to your well-being.

There is also the problem of hyper-specialization and labor division up to a point where you're basically reduced to being the tiniest screw in a huge machine you never really see completely. One of the few points upon which John Calvin and Karl Marx agreed upon was that work and creating something is pretty much the meaning of life; and one of the main points that distinguish us from (other) animals. But we're alienated more and more from this work and reduced to being disposable screws in some Kafka-like machinery.

It's as if you're never really cooking a meal but just cut onions over and over again. Or just peel onions. Or just put the onions out of a bag unto a table before the next "screw" peels them and the next screw cuts them, but no one really makes a whole meal anymore, if that metaphor makes sense.

It doesn't. Why do you think so many artists kill themselves? You can be really good at something and still hate yourself. Trust me.

Very well said. Even being very high up the food chain, people are very alienated from what they do. Quite a sad state of affairs, really.

Yes, but it's not enough to be good at those things. You need to really master one field. Be a living encyclopedia in one of those areas.

Lmao, good luck. Mastering an art or a skill is a cope. If I wasn't high inhibition I would dox myself right now so you could see that being very good at something and well-renowned for it is not going to make you feel better.

I know anon1822 won't agree due to his own perfectly valid tendencies, but gym is an area that you can always be accomplishing. Sure it's pretty meaningless to be able to bench 300 lbs or run 10k in 40 minutes, but the benefits resonate with me much more than, say, being able to speak several languages or being able to code in C++ or read a lot of books on the Civil War.

I do agree, actually. Going to the gym 3 times a week and training your muscles so you're stronger than the average person is a waste of time. Training your body to a degree where you actually rise above all the other gym-goers, where your strength or the aesthetics of your muscles are something that is worth a moment of praise, now that's something I can respect.

Everybody needs something they can do that doesn't involve consuming media.

I plan on filling the void by learning Japanese and eventually get around to learning guitar.

Great. In that case, actually use your skill. You don't have to make money off it (although that's always a good thing), but don't let it be just a piece of trivia about you. Utilize your talents.

I don't know how old you are, but take it from me, a slightly older incel. "Planning to", "get around to" actually means you'll never do it. Do it today or prepare for it today and start tomorrow. If not, you'll never actually do it.

yeah. it's impossible to focus on anything when all you want is mutually reciprocated love and sex with a girl that you are attracted to and feels the same for you.

I know it sounds like such a cop out. I'm a college senior.

I'll get around to it though, I need to prioritize.

I'm going to register for a Japanese class that begins in October and meets once a week that I'll be attending in addition to my college classes so I really do have plans on making this a reality.

I have plans of going to Japan in June and want to be conversational by then.

I also started going to the gym in the beginning of July and I haven't given up on that since and never will.

My guitars (yes I bought them before learning) are collecting dust but that is put on hold until after I take a few months of Japanese classes I'll get to that too.

You're very right though because my guitars are multiple years old and I've been wanting to learn Japanese and start the gym for at least a year now and having only begun that recently.

Of course it's a cope, OP never claimed that it isn't. Coping is very healthy and everyone needs a good cope, being really good at something could be one.

Not every cope works for everyone and quite frankly I doubt that everyone is able to be happy. I believe that there are some people who are simply born to be miserable.

All that being said I do think that being good at something can give life purpose and potentially be fullfilling, at least compared to being in the same situation except being shit/mediocre. There is nothing that guarantees happiness, sadly.

I'm really curious as to who you are though..

Do at least one of those things tomorrow. Doesn't matter if it's just 20 minutes of reading Japanese learning tutorials online. Just do it. If you don't, you'll know deep down that you'll never do it.

I totally agree with OP. Is not healthy being thinking is getting foids 24/7. And we should try to fill the empty place loneliness leave in us with our hobbies and trying to find ou what make us happy (or make us forget our unhappiness)
