It does. We had a TV channel during the 90s which invested hard into animes exhibiting tons of them, and since then anime has quite a big niche here. Not to mention Brazil also has the biggest Japanese population outside of Japan, mostly in the state of São Paulo.

That said, the golden era of the anime conventions seems to be over, they aren't so big or popular nowadays as they were in the late 00s and early 2010s.
