Idk why he got such a strong backlash. He maybe a bit stricter in his mod style but he didn't the deserve the reaction he got from a certain section of the forum.

I was quite fond of him during his pre mod days.
But he didn't even let anyone give him a second chance and left
Agree he should have a stayed around a bit. Things would have calmed down a bit. Maybe he left for other reasons.
